The start/finish of the Hagg Lake 25k/50k is at the Sain Creek Picnic Area. Because the loop around the lake would leave us a little short, there is a short out and back at the start of the race. For the 25k, the out and back is 1.51 miles; for the 50k it is 3.03 miles. The out and back is on a gravel road and, like the rest of the course, is hilly. However, it's also the perfect distance for you to get warmed up, dropping your extra layers off as you pass back by Sain Creek! Then, it's on to the trail. In years past, the trail has been sloppy, slippery, and, well ... muddy. The primarily singletrack trail is a mixture of hills and flats. Runners will run counterclockwise around the track - 50k-ers get to do it twice and 25k-ers are done after only one loop. It is highly recommended that you wear trail shoes for this race. (It will be much, much harder if you don’t.) Every runner has different preferences for trail shoes, but we suggest a very aggressive tread. Many runners also wear gaiters to keep rocks, sticks, and dirt out of their shoes.
Course Map (without initial out and back):
The course will be closed at 4:00 p.m. and we reserve the right to pull anyone left on the course past this time. All 50K runners must complete the first loop by 11:30 (3.5 hours for the normal start). No dogs are allowed on the course during the race.
Sain Creek Pavilion Layouts for Pre-Race and Post-Race
Check-in this year will be in a tent outside of the Pavilion. We are trying to keep things from getting too crowded in there! Otherwise everything will be in the same location.
